I'm looking for some ammonia to help with the fishless cycling of my additional new tank. Would this be suitable to help start the process?

if you scroll down, it says perfect for fish tank cycling. lol

Also, it states the ingredients are 95% ammonia and 5% water so no harmful ingredients.

Oh right my bad. :L

Yes, because it only contains those 2 ingredients. Anything else could be harmful and so fourth but that contains the same as I used :good:

It says on the ad they are unsure of the %

It could contain anything

I used that to cycle my tank and it's perfectly fine. I did find, however, that to get my tank to 4ppm it needed a little less than what this site's calculator said, so it may be more concentrated than other brands.

I wouldn't recommend using fish food to create ammonia, as it's very difficult to regulate.

I've always done fish-in cycles. Not sure why, it's the way I started and the way I'll continue. I like to think I can build the ammonia levels up gradually and I know how to regulate it (or thereabouts). I would rather put up with water changes every day. It makes me feel as though I'm doing something other than staring at an empty tank waiting for something I only just about understand to happen  I'm patient, don't get me wrong, but I'm not THAT patient. That said, I try to keep tank water as close to the stats of tap water as possible (once it's been dechlorinated of course) so large water changes aren't such a problem for the 2 or 3 fish I usually start with.

Other U.K. members have purchased their ammonia from Boots.

I would've started out by doing fishless cycling but Boots in our area doesn't sell Ammonia. I tried everywhere that may or may not do it (garden centres, chemists etc). It's something to do with bomb threats. I think ammonia can be used in construction of explosives, not 100% sure but that's what I was told.

I don't doubt it. If you want to buy cold medicine here, they keep it locked up behind the pharmacy counter. You have to show your picture identification, fill out a form and they'll only sell you a small amount. Why? Because kids here found a way to make crystal meth (illegal drug) with it!

From what I've heard, you have to order in ammonia from Boots. They don't keep it on the shelves. tbh, unless you live right by the town centre of wherever you live, the petrol money you'd spend getting into town to get some would be about the same you'd spend on postage from ordering online.
