I have this Zebra Danio and it seems to be getting fatter by the day. In fact, one of the other 4 I have seems to be growing too. I don't know if it's pregnancy or some sort of illness. They are very active.

What do you think?

It's clearly a female zebra danio, these are egg scatters and she's deferentially swollen with eggs. This is very common and while any males you have may show an interest in her and even spawn in a community tank, usually most of the eggs and almost all of any fry that hatch are usually eaten:(

If you want to breed them then you should think of getting a breeding tank so once they have breed you can remove the parents back to the main tank and have a chance of rearing the fry.

I assume that would be a second tank complete with a filtration system? I'm barely getting this tank set up. That's too bad. :(

I have seen these plastic boxes that hang inside the main tank - do those work in this situation?

Thanks!

what you need is a tank with the bottom
covered with marbles with these fish been egg
scatters when the male and female they scatter eggs during
the spawning process . the reason for the marbles on the bottom
of the tank is so that when they scatter the eggs fall down
between the marbles and the fish cant eat them to set this tank up you will
need a air pump air powered sponge filter and a 25 to 50 watt heater
also a male if you haven't already got one

All 4 are getting fat at the same time? You either have 4 females or they are bloated.

No, it looks like 3 are (one very much so) and then one appears to be a male. Unfortunately, I won't be able to set up this breeding tank described herein. Nature will have to take its course.

Get a see through plastic tub, attach corks to the outside, put in pebbles or something in the bottom and fill with water, place into your current tank.............hey presto

The plastic tub would need to be at least 18 inches by 10 for these fish as their very active when spawning.
I've used pebbles at first but they still manage to get down and eat a large number.

Marbels is the very best thing if you want good numbers.

Spot on advise there. Dont use a power filter, just a simple air powered sponge filter which ia very well established is also a good idea as this nad provide some microscopic foods for the fry.

Also research about hatching brine shrimp as this is perfect food for fry.
