my big old featherfin catfish was visciously attack by my cat 3 days ago (i found it in the cats mouth!) his 'sail' was totally missing apart from the bone, tail shredded, fins shredded and a huge chunk missing from his back (you can see the bone)
he's been in isolation for the three days with medication to prevent infection, but the wounds have gone white a,d fluffy, and he's breathing oh so slowly at the surface. i dont think he's got long
is it time to end the suffering? in my heart i think it is but i just need to hear it from someone else. i have no clove oil or freezing water ready so i have to do it the hard way i guess (hard for me anyhow) or should i just let him fade away himself (although he must be in terrible pain and hate myself for letting him suffer these three days but i really thought he'd come out the other end shining)
its time like this i hate my hobby :(

Bless him.
Not sounding good if his breathing slow.
Fungus can grow on dead tissue.

If you think he not going to make it.
Freezing water that has a thin sheet of ice on the surface.
It dosn't take long for the fish to pass away.
Make sure the gills are not moving, and leave the fish awhile to make sure its passed away.
So sorry.

i really am heartbroken, he's one of the fish i rescued with the oscars and is apparently over ten years old. now he's dying because i left the lid of the tank and the stupid cat got him
im mortified but think its definatly time

Bless him.
Had him a long time. Should be proud of that fact.
I have cats but mine leave my fish alone. There bored of them now.
So sorry wish I could offer more hope.

just a little update......he's still with us!!!!
i never had the guts to do the deed so decided to leave him until my fella came home, then i got called into work so didnt get to do it, i presumed he'd be dead by morning, the next day he was swimming about so i thought i better give him a chance, hiw wounds are horrendous but staarting to heal...vid to follow.... its amazing what clean water can do!!!!

Have you added a med.
Glad there some improvement bless him.
Need to see the vid.

There is chance, some fish just dont give up.. My aunt has this huge goldfish in her pond, its had a heron stab its beak right through it, been caught in blanket weed during winter and frozen, and been beached for several hours when the pond leaked yet hes still alive and kickin'.

Youd be surprised what some fish can bounce back from.

video taking a little longer to upload than i thought been sat here an hour and it only 13% done!!!

Goldfish are hardy. They have to be poor things. They do seem to get neglected.
Bless him he has been throw the wars. Glad he's ok.
