I was given a 20 gallon hex tank yesterday, that is covered in crud deposits.

The filter/hood were easy enough to clean, I soaked them in vinegar. But soaking the tank in vinegar isn't really economically feasibly, and I've tried doing it with a cloth, but it isnt really working.

Is there an easy way to remove them? at this point, I'm scraping with the side of a toothbrush.

The tank has a LOT of them, and I'm not allowed to put the tank in the living room and set it up til they're all removed.

you can use a scraper but just don't go
near the seals that hold the tank together
the type of scraper to use is the type that
uses Stanley knife blades but like i say don't
go near the seals also warm water with aquarium
salt added will also help

I'd recommend a combination of a brillo pad and some lemon juice. Lemon juice is a great natural cleaning agent and is definitely a lot more cost effective than vinegar. The citric acid/scrubbing should get that crud off!

Hope this helps.

not brillo pad there full of soap steel wool
would be better

Dont use a brillo or steel wool it will scratch the glass!, fill the tank with really hot water, leave it to stand for a while then use a sponge with the green scrubber on.

I used a stanley scraper, which is excellent for getting crud off,but dont touch the sealant around the edges :good:

I scrubbed and scraped for hours last night. Got the majority of them off. I cheated a little, used CLR on the ones on the OUTSIDE of the glass. and cloths soaked in vinegar on the inside ones. I'll try some lemon juice when I'm home tonight.
