Hi everyone,
The LFS advised me that she is 'heavily pregnant' - but having looked at pics of other pregnant guppies I'm not so sure, what do you think?
If she is, is it possible to estimate how far along? Also, is she any particular type of guppy?
Sorry, newbie to guppies! Hope the pic is decent enough quality - not easy to get her to stay still and pose!

Guppies are always pregnant but this one doesn't seem that much far into the pregnancy. Give it 3 to 4 weeks and she'll give birth if she met a male in the last 4-5 months.

Ya she dosent look to gravid. You will know when shes about to give birth when her belly "squares"

She may well be pregnant, certainly not "heavily pregnant"... but, she could also just have a dark undertone and thus a dark gravid spot and not be pregnant.... but coming from a pet shop... chances are she is pregnant. (Lovely color, by the way!)

Thank you Prairie, I think she is really beautiful, I have two females who look exactly the same, except one is chubbier (probably more pregnant!) than the other.

As much as I agree with the opinions on here - she doesn't at all look 'heavily pregnant' to me either - I spent about 10 minutes trying to fins her just now... she is hiding among the big red plant (not real) and not moving around much... which might suggest she is near to dropping?! The other female and male are swimming around as per normal, but she is definitely hiding. At one point I thought I'd have to send out a search party it took me so long to spot her!

If she is brand new to your tank, she is hiding because she doesn't know yet if anything in your tank is going to eat her. At least half the fish I get do some hiding when they are new.

Yes she is new, all three are and they were very apprehensive when they first went in a couple of days ago, would hide if I went near the tank etc. After a few hours though they were swimming around happily, all through yesterday and earlier today, then she suddenly started hiding... maybe something spooked her or maybe the male is a bit randy :hyper: and she's feigning a headache! Lol

Managed to get a couple pics of her hiding, I think you're right and she's hiding through wariness rather than pregnancy/imminent dropping:

Best one I could get of her tummy, it doesn't look at all squared off to my untrained eye:

She is so pretty! I hope she comes out of her shell soon :). She is not very square at all. Looks to be newly pregnant. I agree with snazy that you have 3-4 weeks before she drops.

Thanks everyone, she's happily swimming around again this morning, must have just been a bit shy for some reason :)

I had one that hid for an entire week... most came out in two days though. LOL
