Que here! So I started my fish dad journey again three weeks ago and one of my females gave birth on July 3, 2022, to 9 little fry. Well, I noticed my yellow guppy is huge all of a sudden (Or maybe I just never paid any close attention) I am not sure if she is pregnant or just fat because I do not see her gravid spot. To be on the safe side I have placed her in a floating nursery container.

Attached is a photo of her tell me what you guys think. … (that’s “big momma” in the back- she have birth to the divine nine 😂& that’s “Shy” beside her… who is pregnant as well. That’s “Blue”…the male; he’s been stalking “Big Momma” nonstop since she gave birth.)

(Disclaimer: I give my guppies brine shrimp three times a week)

Hello fellow North Carolinian and welcome to the forum! (There are barely any members from NC)

That guppy definitely looks like Iike it could be pregnant. I would get a breeder box and put her in there so she isn't pushed around by others and not as stressed while giving birth.

Hey! NC in the house lol

Yea, she’s currently in one now. She’s moving extremely slow and not eating, so I’m hoping it’s Fry. All her friends stay around the nursery container (breeder box) keeping her entertained.

If she is bloated there are ways to treat but sense it's a guppy and they give live birth, they will look very very fat 😅. Just keep a very close eye on her.

I wouldn't keep her in the box. It's less stressful to the fish to just be in the tank.
Not necessarily, I've heard stories where a pregnant fish will get bullied to death or be chased and stress her out badly.

I would put a few plants in the box though so she has a bit of cover

There are also many many stories of fish dropping their eggs due to high stress levels.

Yes, and they get VERY stressed from being chased and bullied. Even die from it.

I would keep the female separate and make sure that there are plants in the breeder box so she feels safer

Okay… the Fry would have tons of hiding spots in the Guppy Weed/ Branches and stones on the other side of the tank. I think I’m going to release her in a day or so.

That would actually be a good idea. Let her stay in the box for another day or two and then release. Keeps her away from bullies until she is ready. Nice thinking!

I think you need to actually keep some of these fish before getting into this sort of discussion
