My Platy gave birth to ten fry on saturday - which I thought a low amount to start with. Now two days on, she is displaying the same signs as she was on friday night that would suggest she is about to give birth - she is sitting on the substrate and hiding low in the plants again, and some of the other fish are hanging around her again....is it possible she is still pregnant???

Help!

Welcome to the forum Tory. A platy does not usually have a serial pregnancy like that. Once she has delivered, a platy female will not normally deliver any more fry for at least 4 weeks. You are right that 10 fry is a small number of fry but it is not unheard of. In some fish, like Heterandria formosa, superfoetation, the practice of dropping a fry or two a day for several days, is quite common but not in the case of a platy.

Thanks! I didnt think they were, just seemed odd and she is still very round with a dark abdomen, just though it odd is all!!

Thank you very much for your reply
