I've notice that my male pearl gourami has been acting quite weird recently. It has been either staying near the surface and constantly swimming backwards and forwards, just inching back and forth over and over. If its not near the surface, its resting at the bottom. Sometimes when it rocks back and forth it twitches now and then. Something is definitely wrong with it.

Does anyone know what it is or have experienced this as well?

No, he doesn't sound good.

It might be worth your while making a post in the emergency forum. Those few symptoms don't ring a bell for anything specific as far as I know. THe shimmies and lethargy are symptoms for a number of things, e.g. velvet, infections etc. Make a post there with all the form details (tank parameters etc) and I'm sure you'll get a response from one of the disease experts.

you may want to look up some information on your gourami. He doesnt sound like he's doing good at all.

My male pearl was displaying the exact same thing a couple of months ago, basically because due to circumstances he'd been kept in a dirtyish tank, water condition weren't good and it took it's toll.

I moved him into a smaller but much cleaner tank and treated him with anti internal bac meds. He stayed in there for about 7/8 weeks and just a few days ago I moved him back into the big tank (which has been moved to a much more user friendly position). He's perked up no end.

Do frequent water changes and if there's nothing apparently wrong go with internal bacteria as a probable cause.

Good luck!

P.S Are any of your other fish showing symptoms of anything?
