Hello!

My Red Robin Gourami keeps swimming up to my thermometer and flicking it so it clicks against the glass.

Anyone know why? It does it for about five minutes then swims away to its normal spot.

Is he just a little bit special lol yeah I'd have a check if there's something obvious bothering him

He doesn't look like he has an illness. Just looks like he did when I bought him. Nothing unusual. It's everytime he goes for wander and spots the thermometer.

Could have gill flukes or some sort of parasite, some times fish do flick every now and then (it's a natural thing) but if hes doing it a lot something is certainly irritating him.

Take the thermometer out and see if he does it against something else instead.

Does he look poorly?

I have only see him do it twice since I got him in September.

Your original post makes it sound like it does it all the time! I don't think there's much to worry about here...

I may be wrong but don't Gourami's blow bubbles as a nest for eggs or something?

When was the last time you did a water change and what are you water readings for ammonia and nitrite?

Like I said, take the thermometer out and see if he flicks on something else instead.

I do a water change once a week on a Sunday. At the moment I don't know what my readings are as I haven't tested since last weekend.

If your fish ever show any possible signs of illness or irritation, the first thing to do is check your water to see if there is any obvious cause.

The next thing is a water change.

As its the weekend, try and do one tomorrow instead.
