Is my goldfish acting normally?

Thank you!!!

He is still this way and disabled to swim... he is laying on the side and his body is like bridge not straight... he tries to swim but he can't... his body is like it is paralyzed... what can i do for him?... shall i change his water again immediately or wait until night(i changed it in morning)?

I’d advise to change water now, at least 75%.

Sounds like he is reacting to possible ammonia/nitrite poisoning.

Have you bought a new tank and filter for him? In that size tank with no filter the water will become toxic very quickly even without feeding. We are talking minutes, not hours. Your own observations prove this when you say he is better immedialtely after a water change then gets worse again.

As many have stated he needs a bigger tank and a filter. Otherwise he will die. All the advice you have received was valid to keep him going assuming you would do this, but is not a long term solution.

How does it get toxic without feeding?? And what is a long term solution?

And i live in an island i don't have immediate access to a pet store and also i don't trust those guys because they are the ones who told me that this tank would be fine for one fish...

By saying "those guys" i mean the guys in pet store not in this forum... indeed i wouldn't know what to do with my fish if this forum didn't exist!!!

Fish food and fish waste breaking down in the water creates ammonia, as does the fish breathing.

Long term solution is to get a bigger volume of water for the fish to live in, and have a filter and plants in the water. Plants help absorb the ammonia and a filter will develop colonies of beneficial bacteria that eats the ammonia and converts it into less harmful substances.

Any clean container that hasn't had chemicals in can be used as a pond or aquarium. If you can get a plastic storage container, fibreglass pond, or just a bigger aquarium, they would all help. Even a big plastic rubbish bin that holds more water than his current tank can be used.

The more water for the fish, the longer it takes to get dirty, and filters and plants help a lot too.

Unfortunately there are still some shops that don't provide the correct information when it comes to keeping animals and fish. You got unlucky :)

Do you know how many fish and pets does that pet shop sell?!?!? Why should fish die because they just don't care to learn and inform their customers???

Anyway...

Now he is like paralyzed... in that bridge shape... he can't swim although he tries... i changed his water before some time... shall i change it all again tomorrow morning?

If the water doesn't smell then leave it until tomorrow afternoon/ night and see how he is doing. however, if he is not moving and bent it doesn't sound good.

His water isn't smelling..and it didn't in morning too...he just started bending and now he is worse... he cant become straight again

I will keep changing 75% of the water, right?

It’s a kind of a bad sign that the goldfish has a bent spine and cannot straighten up again.

This basically down to too much toxins for too long.

When did you do last water change?

Too many water changes too often is very stressful and can make things worse for the goldfish due to being stressed means the body immune system weakens and this makes him more susceptible to disease.

Not easy to keep on top on without a test kit and a larger tank and filter, I know we have said this many times but that’s the basics of the situation am afraid.

Whilst we acknowledge access to LFS is tricky for you it’s kind of taking its toll on the goldfish really.

Not an easy situation but do keep trying.

So...
My fish has a really bad illness. And i have no idea about how to take care of it plus that it will porbably die.

I changed his water twice a day as you guys in here told me... not more than this.

I will go sleep now and tomorrow i will ask my parents to drop me at the pet store after school. What filter is better? Let me know... and thank you all again!!!

Yeah, sorry dont have any better news at this stage.

Mistakes are made but lessons are learned, for you the lessons have been learned the hard way :/

You can get any filter but kind of moot for a 1 gallon tank really as all it will do is swirl the water around without any real benefit at this point.

A filter works best when in a larger volume of water and with some dechlorinator/tap safe.

So if you want to make a real effort perhaps if you could get the cheapest and biggest tank you can afford and have space for from LFS, failing that perhaps a cheap large plastic container from a hardware or storage store will do fine for now and a cheap filter from LFS, does not really matter the size of filter at this stage and do get some dechlorinator / tap safe.

Those would be real good first steps to take.

The cheapest filter is probably a corner sponge filter like the one in the following link. There are lots of varieties of this type of filter and they can be blue, grey, yellow or white. The colour doesn't matter and is simply different brands. Some will have a lead weight in them to hold them down in the water. Others will need a small weight tied to them to keep them underwater. A small fishing sinker can be used to hold them down.

Corner sponge filters run off an air pump like the ones in the following link. Air pumps come with 1, 2 or 4 outlets. The outlets are where the air is pumped out of the pump. You only need a 1 outlet air pump unless you want to run a filter and an air operated ornament. Sometimes the 2 outlet air pumps are a similar price to a 1 outlet pump, in which case buy the 2 outlet pump. but a 1 outlet pump should be adequate.

The air pump is plugged into a power point and pumps air into the aquarium through a piece of plastic tubing called airline. One end of the airline is plugged into the pump, and the other end goes onto the filter.

The air pump does make a bit of noise so get the shop to plug a few different pumps into a power point and turn them on to see which one makes the least noise. Put a piece of airline on the air pumps when listening to them.

Another type of filter you could look at is a power filter. These have plastic cases that hold the filter sponges, and use a water pump to pump water through the filter media (sponges). Power filters pump more water through the filter materials and this helps clean the water up quicker. However, they do cost more.

There are 3 main types of power filter. The cheapest power filters are internal power filters. They sit inside the aquarium and have a small sponge in a case with a water pump (powerhead) on top of the plastic case. The water is pulled through the sponge and pumped around the aquarium. They only have a small sponge and usually create too much water movement for a small aquarium.

Another type of power filter is the Hang on Back (HOB) style. These are a plastic case that hangs on the side or back of the aquarium and sucks water into the filter by a water pump. The water flows through filter materials and then flows back into the tank. The best HOB filter is an Aquaclear. See link below. they come in a range of sizes and turn over a lot of water but it is returned in a calmer way so the fish don't get blown around as much.

The last type of power filter is an external canister filter. These are a plastic container/case with a pump on top. They are connected to the aquarium by plastic tubes. The aquarium water drains into the filter by via the tubes and is filtered by materials inside the plastic case. The water is then pumped back into the aquarium. These have a lot of filtration materials and work well but are the most expensive out of all the filters.

----------------------
My personal choice for a beginner would be the air pump and corner sponge filter, or an Aquaclear 30 HOB if you can afford it. It depends on prices and how much you can afford. There are other brands beside Aquaclear that are quite good too, so a cheaper brand might be available to you.
