Is My Betta Ill?

Well i got my Betta yesterday, and I was watching him last night and it seems that around his gills are cut He was flaring and they stuck out and looked very sore. I don't know if this is norml for Betta's as this is my first. Also when he is breathing you can see like inside bits coming out of his gills if that makes sense? Also it looks like a cut on his gills. I tried to record a video for you to see, let me know if this is normal Betta or he is ill

Bit difficult to see on the video for me, does it look like this

from what i can see it looks normal,this look is normal when he meets another male or displaying for females, never put two males together,they will kill each other, i see you have other fish with him, just be aware they could nip at fins...

Get a mirror and place it so the betta can see himself, you should see how he flares fully and displays beautiful

Yeah it does look a bit like that! Think my tank gave a slight mirror effect inside and he thought it was another, he is the only betta. Thanks i think he is normal by them pics.

What are your water stats? The first thing you should do if you think there is a problem is to check your water quality which could be the cause.

Water stats are fine, it looked to be a wound rather than a rash.

Beautiful betta by the way! My boy darwin has that same sorta cut on his gills too... its most likely him just fighting his reflection in the aquarium. but he seems healthy
