is it possible to successfully attach crypto plants to a peice of bogwood??

yes of course, if you glue them, use sticky tape etc (theres always a way, not often a good way but theres always a way!)

sorry in a silly mood, could you not tie them on with a bit of fishing line or thread, then when the roots have grown round take the thread off? thats what i do with java fern; or are crypts better suited to being properely planted in the substrate?

Good question.

You can attach them - but they might not stay attached.

Take the desired bit of wood, make a dip in the surface to allow root space. Put the plant into the dip, and try to fill in spare space with small substrate/sand. (this helps protect the roots from nibbling fish)

Use cotton thread or similar to carefully bind the plant to the wood. Simply tie it round the wood, overlapping a bit of plant on either side.

The small new root growth may take to the wood if it is an aged piece of wood and so has begun to break down. Else, the plant will simply stay attached only by the thread.

Tip - If the substrate keeps falling out or the roots are getting nibbled, then use some clean thin material (like tights!) to cover the substrate.

How do you guys manage to handle your crypts without having them melt?
I've had some do that after even the most cautious transference into a fine substrate with nourishment supplied beneath.
