The other day i came home from school and fed my fish right when i got home. so i fed my fish then i went to my sis's room to feed her fish then i came back to see my fish and right away saw my male swordtail and "female" guppy doing what seemed like mating (i put quotations because her anal fins seem pointed but the males keep trying to mate with her). im not sure cuz i've never seen fish mate before so i'll describe it.
i walked in and saw the two swimming kinda fast through the tank and the guppy was upside down and the swordtail was right on top of her.
the only thing is right away when i looked they got off each other for.
so im not sure because i dont know what the mating process looks like or how long it lasts either.
also my mom was telling me that all night the guppy was swimming right in front of the swordtail waving it tail around in his face and stuff.
so my question is........
Do you think they mated and can they have babies?
and if she gets pregnant i know how to properly care for the fry

no i dont think they have mated
swordtails dont breed with guppys but can breed with platys.
if your guppy is brightly coloured and quit small it will be male as females are larger and duller in colour

Livebearer males will try to mate with everything in the tank. I have even seen guppies trying on small egg layers. It is not going to be a problem because the cross is not fertile.
