Is It Old Age?

hi guys, michealtangelo is starting to get stuck to the filter intake, so far i had to release him twice and his lady friend seems worrid about him.

im thinking since the fact he is a balloon molly and that i have had him for 7 months+ and that he has to be around a year old indicates that he is relitivley old for a balloon molly.

water stats have only 20ppm no3 and ph is 7.3 and water temp is 77.

so is this what i think it is? if so do you think he'll learn to avoid the filter?

i have secluded him in a fish net so the other fsh wont get him, hes lost balance control and cant swim, i thinkthe end is near for him , mrs. leonardo da fishy (wife) is stillsticking by his side and pushing the net to help him stay upright, at least her batch of fry will mean that michealtangelo lives on, and imappy about that,just that they wont have a dad

I have no experience with balloon mollies but their bretheren, the mollies, have given me many hours of pleasure. I would be a bit cautious about writing off a molly. In my experience, which differs some from that of other people, a molly is a tough fish that will survive things that most would not expect. My female lived another 2 months after I had written her off and given my best effort to save her, based on the idea that was dying of old age. Nobody was able to give her a better chance than I expected but she still went on to drop fry and survive for another two months. Don't be too quick to write off a molly.

It sounds like he may have a swim bladder issue (not uncommon with balloon mollies), It is almost always fatal. I would try putting some de-shelled peas(that are warm and mushy) to him. I have heard it may relieve it.

Sorry! I was confused with dropsy (I think, it's been a long, stressful day)! It is thought that increased amount of poop will decrease the internal pressure in a fish who is suffering with dropsy. I haven't dealt with either condition in a long time. Now I feel bad, giving out poor information!

its ok, i dont even have any peas in the house anyway, even if that would of made a difference, he died within 4 hours,with no symptoms other than getting caught in the filter intake and before getting slightly smaller and swimming slower which he didt do when i first got him or on any other days, and the only thing i added was root tabs

....actually, can SB be caused by say too much air taken in? i fed new flake food yesterday ans everyone went nuts,and before i used to feed granules which sank so you think he got too excited? i hope not.

well the link says its not fatal yet he died within 4 hours of me noticing the symptoms,and he hasnt been fed and poops allthe time,in factwhen he was stuck at the filter the first timehe was STILL pooping.



and yes bebobb they were like a married couple the way they acted, which is why i use hubby as a term for them.
