Is Dyed Play Sand Safe To Use In My Tank?

At a guess, no. It would depend a lot on what they dyed it with, but most died substrates tend to gradually rub off their colour over time.

i was thinking just that.
there must be some safe colouring about.
as there is so much coloured gavel about.
but which ones are safe?????
 
Thank you Dr! I bought some aquarium sand today, it's not quite as orange as the one I wanted but at least it won't kill my fish :good:.

ahh, you've bought it now.
take a look a "filter sand" (swimming pool). lots of colours and fine for a substrate.
 
Ah thank you for the tip, unfortunately the sand is already in the tank and was such a pain I don't think I'll be changing it anytime soon lol. Maybe another time when I work up the courage!
