Can you imagine the beautiful array of colours and types all in one tank, is any breeder working of this?

I don't know of any efferts in that area. I read about a college research program experimenting with ways to increase the life span of Bettas. That would be so great to have a tank full of beautifull males and females.

Part of their beauty is their personalities. I wonder how it might effect their personalities though if we could take the fight out of them.

I have googled SENSITIVITY TRAINING FOR BETTAS with no luck. :(

If you just wanted a display tank full of males and female bettas that have been genetically altered to eradicate aggression then that would be great!....but the down side to that would be if you wanted to breed them. In my experience its the aggressiveness of the male that turns the female on. Imagine having a beautiful male that didn't flare and show his extraordinary colours. I have 3 pairs of bettas that are very docile towards each other and those 3 pairs have no intentions to breed. One of the reasons I have bettas is because of their aggressive nature....what are your thoughts on it. :)

Bear in mind that when it comes to bettas, splendens are just the tip of the iceberg. If you want a betta that can be kept in groups, look into Imbellis.

Personally I wouldn't like to see such a tank.
If a male is supposed to be the only male then so be it. Why mess with them? I'm sick of seeing modified fish, hybrid fish ect, and as for tattooed fish and dyed fish, well I'm sure most peoples will be the same.

Splendens was bred to be agressive throughselective breeding. Much like how different dog breeds have come about. To breed them to be peaceful would be along the same line...would have nothing to do with hybridizing, genetically modifying, etc.
I've often thought about breeding the species to be less agressive ( not Me personally, but in general) id have a whole lotta fish if that were the case!
Just a thought
cheers
