The tank is 36"l x 12" w x 18" h.

I was hoping to get a pair of Gourami, is that enough room? And if I got a same sex pair by accident would it matter?
(Or could I just get one? I'm not sure if they're a social fish) :p

More specifically a pair of Dwarf gourami if the store has them, if not than either Opaline or Honey Sunset (Can I get one of each? :p) Sorry, I just want to get the questions answered rather than asking the pet store people or searching google for answers.

honeys are alright in same sex groups but dwarfs and opalins can be housed more then one male to aggressive but can live with females :)

and you have plenty of room :) your tanks about 130L which is fine for them :)

also ive never had one by their self until now so im not sure except opalins are ok and happy to live on their own but be aware that if you want to add more later that gourami will have it terrtory so it may not work or could be some fighting problems their much happier in groups or pairs :)

So if by accident I got two male honeys they would probs be ok? but I have to be careful with the other two? ok :) I just didn't want to screw it up if I just went and bought some on impulse...

Also, really quick.. do they get along with live bearers? -- Molly's, Platy's and Guppys? (I have all three and I just want to know fi there would be fighting) I'm assuming they eat fry also? - which is fine with me..

Males are pointy dorsal finned and females are rounded, correct? (I've been skimming the forum :p) :D

All male Gouramis have long dorsal fins pointed toward their tails.

yeh thats right :) also all my gouramis have different anal fins aswell my males have pointed anal fins and my female have rounded so look at that if your not sure on the dorsal

(i dont know how accurate the anal fin is so stick with looking at the dorsal unless ur not sure :) )

The general rule of thumb for Dwarf Gouramis is a minimum tank size of 20 gallons with (1) Gourami per 10 gallons. With your tank being a 30 gallon you should get 1 male & 2 females.

Caution! Female Dwarf Gouramis are fairly hard to come by since their coloring isn't as bright as the males. This is why most pet stores only have males for sale. Maybe you can ask them to order females for you.........the big chain stores probably won't but local fish only stores probably will.

Good luck & let us know how it works out, with pictures if possible.
