I have bought some new T5 80w lights from iquarium and decided to buy some reflectors as well. The reflectors are held to the tubes by metal clips at each end of the reflector and I have found that these metal clips aquire a charge through pick-up from the tube-ends and if I touch them I get a mild electric shock. Anyone else experienced this? Anyone found a way to stop it?

Wise advice. But then if I had a bare wire hanging from the ceiling I might tend to get it fixed rather than tell everyone not to touch it. #justsaying (I have no idea what that means, but I've seen it written in places).

Try a length of cable (1mm) preferably Earth wire linking the reflector to an earth point. This should work. You can also change the metal clips to plastic ones.

... And wear rubber gloves when you do it :)
Lol- don't touch it! :D

I'm sure he has the intelligence to turn the power off before working on the fitting ⚡⚡

Yes, I think I will try to get some plastic clips although I will have to drill through the reflector some way in as the very ends of the tube may well be too hot.

As an experiment use a piece of cable with a crocodile clip on each end and put one on the reflector and the other to earth and see if earthing helps before drilling the reflector
