1 severum 1 blue acara 2 kribs 2 firemouths 2 jade eyed cichlids 4 angels and coming tuesday golden nugget plec. are there any inverts tough enought to go in with this lot and not end up as lunch?

I would say most shrimps are out of the question...although I have a "fish killer" type which ate all my BN babies  and so I moved him over to my Mbuna tank and he seems to be doing okay and they all ignore him. It was that or to be killed.....by me. after the stunt he pulled with my Bns.

I would think they would end up as lunch. Maybe the larger macro types might be ok. I would also think your gold nugget might find it hard to compete for food with the greedy cichlids (talking from experience).

maybe il leave the inverts then cheers. whole prawns work well for that i find. they sink pretty quickly and once they are on the bottom most of the cichlids lose interest in them . another trick i find works is to drop them thru a plastic pipe so you can get them exactly wheree you want them out of the way of thee greedy fish

Yeh I did similar methods with chopped prawns and bloodworms and once they were bulked up and less shy they tended to be quite bold and hold their own. I think a lot of people make the mistake of not getting fancy pl*cos feeding properly from the start and they just hide away and starve.

nope not me i know gns can be sods to acclimatise etc so im gonna make sure i do it right from the outset hes going in the tank tuesday morning ive got a 5 inch bubble disc running and have aimed spray bar upward slightly to get plenty of surface aggitaton for oxygen the tank is kept clean with weekly maintinence regime of gravel vaccing etc ammonia/nitrites at constant zero and i will be putting in some prawns/cucumber just before lights out so hopefully il have him eating well from day 1

with prawns can you add normal ones from supermarkets and defrost them and add them straight in ?

yep thats exactly what i do frozen prawns from icland defrost them and chuck em in as is

Defo prawns are a great food for most fish. My mate works in the fish counter in asda and always keeps me the marked down ones. Mussles are great too.
