Hello all at TFF.
I have kept tropical fish continuously for quite a while - I'm not entirely sure how long but it's somewhere around 35 years.
I started with a general community tank of whatever took my fancy and, although I have never had more than 3 aquaria at a time, over the years I have been through various phases. I kept a South American cichlid and catfish tank for some years, a shoaling tank of giant danios and rasboras (beautiful sight that was) and other variations of community tank.
I had a couple of botia modesta in a tank with a large plecostomus and pair of ancistrus for many years. One botia lived for about ten years and the other made it past 21 before I lost it.
I was active in a local club - as Secretary and then Chairman - and used to show fish there and at the odd open show. But we moved to another more rural part of the UK and there was/is not an active club in these parts. One other thing that I lost when we moved here was the ability to grow plants - it was never a problem in Bedfordshire but has been very difficult and expensive up here by the Humber.
After the last of my cichlids died last year I have only recently got around to restocking my only aquarium. It looks a bit odd at present because the newcomers are barbs and a couple of hoplosternum (yes I know they have a new name now, but old habits die hard) joining a couple of fairly large plecos and a small skunk botia. I'll keep my eyes open when I visit local shops for a few more of the s.america catfish and larger barb types over the coming months.
Looking forward to picking up some interesting facts and perhaps helping out a bit if I can on TFF.
