Popped over to Modaz's shop today for a new Betta following the sad departure of my VT last week.

Came back with this guy. He's a 4(ish) month old HM with a rusty coloured body and redish fins.

1st - This will be his new pad:

Investigating his new home. (Note: the tank temp is a bit cooler than that...)

Investigating the coconut cave: And yeah, I didn't realise the tank was that dirty on the outside :X

(sorry about the reflection.)

The photos are the best I can do as he won't stay still :D

He had a crazy first hour in the tank, charging around everywhere. However, he wasn't impressed with the snail and slammed the brakes on when he saw him. Very funny as he just flare and looked at the shell for about 20 minutes. Swam off and came back to look at it, pecked it twice then hid. However, curiosity kept on getting the betta (Har. See what I did there :p ) of him so he went for another look.

Now I think the excitement's got the better of him, or he doesn't like me at the moment as he's got behind the top of the heater and into a depression in the 3d backing and has been sat there for about 3 hours. Resisting the temptation to go and peek at him so he settles in a bit. Silly fishie.

Cheers Daz - I know you weren't there today, but thanks for your time yesterday.

We're not sure of a name yet. Thinking about "Ernie"

your welcome, when he gets back to full tail whihc should be within a month i reckon he will be awesome, he was on the list to keep for breeding but he came second  poor fellow so ended up with the forsales, glad he is with you as the tank looks great and it makes all the hard work worth every effort :good:

Thanks Daz.

I'll keep you posted how he gets on / tail grows back.

Think he's had not a 'stressful' day as such, more an action packed one as he's still at the back of his tank hiding behind the top of the heater.

Gonna turn the light off in a sec and let him chill.

he's just tired now, all the extra excerise had worn him out he will be right as rain tomorrow :good: ive never understood the "right as rain" saying, does anyone know where it comes from?

Rain: If someone is as right as rain, then they feel fine. Why rain? I've not found a definitive answer. However, of the limited suggestions that I've found, only two stand up. One, that the phrase means just what it says and that farmers welcome rain. However, since the phrase is first recorded only in 1894 and rain is not always welcome, especially at harvest time, I think this unlikely - it would have entered the language much earlier if this were the origin. The other suggestion is that the phrase is merely alliteration and 'as right as reason, restitution, rebellion, research, etc, et, etc' would be equally valid. 'Rain' happened to be settled on.
To support the above, the Times Q&A column of 14 Nov 2005 offered the following:
'According to Partridge, "right as rain" is but one of several "right as" phrases. The OED offers "right as a trivet", but trivets are no more. Brewer suggests that rain is right because it is good for growth. Alliteration occurs likewise in "fit as a fiddle", "nice as ninepence", "happy as a hunter" and "pretty as a picture". W. Nicoll, Canterbury'

Better day today - he's gradually overcoming his agrophobia

Spends a lot of time @ the back of the tank, has a quick explore then darts back off to his 'safe' spot behind the heater. Bless him.

Bloodworms are defrosting at the moment, a couple of them should cheer him up.

Just stuck on a name now. Rusty or Muddy?
