One of my discus has long white stringgy poo. No other symptoms. I belive this is internal parasites, unless anyone else has any other surgestions.

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate <12.5
pH 7.5
GH 8
O2 5

What is a good medication for internal parasites? I will be giving them medicated food, but would like to know if there are any meds in the form of a bath that I can use with them.

Please note however, that I have Fry in the tank.

Thanks
All the best

Jungle makes and internal parasite food.

Is it good? No idea, never tasted it... :p

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I'm sure there are better meds out there but I haven't seen anyone dis the product before.

Good luck.

Interpet has a good one, interpet no9 anti internal bacteria

5teady, will anti-internal bacterial meds realy cover internal parasites? I don't think I'm looking at a bacterial infection here -_- I'm thinking its a worm problem rather than anything else

Thanks again

The jungle meds are american so won't be able to get them in the uk I think.
Rabbut your best bet is a vet.
There only one internal wormer as far as i know it's the wormer plus which you say not very good.
There was flubenol buts its been taken off the market.

I bought two packs of that stuff, and still have one and a half left, so will give it a wirl, while I try find a fish vet. Whats the best way to get the pescription? Will I have to take the fish, a sample of their poo, or what? Don't suppose you know of any fish vets in leeds do you?

Thanks
Rabbut

Yes a poo sample would be good for the vet to take a look under a microscope.
Long stringy white poo can be constipation, bacterial infection, internal parasites.
Is the fish anus enlarged or red and inflamed.
Fish will lose weight with internal parasites or bloat up.
I would try the wormer plus first, but it dosn't work on camallanous worms.
No I don't no a vet in leeds., just ring a local vet.

Look under internal parasites.

Wilder, sorry for the long time of no replying.

There are no other symptoms so mebe I should look at other options first untill more symptome show -_- What do you think? Vet presumably won't be open again untill Tuesday, though I have now found one thanks to Miss Wiggle :good:

Thanks again

Once a fish starts to look really skinny the damage has been done already, so don't really want to get to that point.
For you to be sure I would take a sample of the fish waste to be examined, then go from there.

Good luck fingers crossed.

Good luck with your fish. I wish I could remember where my step aunt works, she is a vet specializing in exotic birds and aquatics, she is really good and would have the proper equipment and knowledge to help you diagnose your fishes disease. This is going to sound really bad but I don't even remember where abouts in England they live

Keep an eye out for over the counter dog wormers. Not sure which are available there in the UK, but panacur has the active ingredient febendazole which was recommended to me by a Discus guru. I use it on occasion as a precautionary wormer.

Thanks for the input you two, but this thread is over a year old now, and the issue was fixed a long while ago ;)
