Internal Media - External Filter

So ive been looking at the tetratec ex1200 and im definitely getting that one, however how do I transfer the media over?
Because it has all these bio-balls and such, do I need to cycle it again?
Do I just put the sponge from my old internal into the new external part where the media goes and its cycled?
Or..........

Put all your old media in and then fill the gaps with new. You don't need to cycle again.

You will have to cut up your internal sponges, then depending how many you have add some to each tray and feed light for a few days should see no problems
