My 90l is STILL in the process of cycling

I was originally planning on platies for it as I like having the fry....However, I may have changed my mind.

Is there any reason why I couldn't keep some little puffers in a newly cycled tank?
PH roughly 7.6 - 7.8

Do any of you have one (or a group)? Are you keeping them in a species only tank?

no spaces. wouldnt let me post the direct link?

i know there a species only tank kinda fish and dont get along with other species. but you can keep more than one depending on tank size. that website has all the information you need though. its the site i used. im setting up a dwarf puffer tank soon! just trying to find a cheap enough tank for now :D

They are tough to care for. They only eat live or frozen foods, no flake or pellets. Onestly, i wou
D stick with the platies.

if im honest they dont seem that hard to care for tbh. couple of snails every week. live/frozen foods(Which we all have anyways) and the water doesnt need anythin special by the looks of it.

Yes but you need to suply snails small enough or crush larger ones. They like to be fed twice a day too.

lucky you dont have to feed snails twice daily so its all good. snails are quite cheap anyways.

if you have a bigger tank like me id just let a species of snails run wild in my bigger tank and just throw one or 2 in the puffer tank every couple of days.

Yeah I have glut of little snails. I clear them out every now and then so i would have enough to treat the little puffers.

Obviously have frozen food for them. They look like cuties but then I am boring too and i like my platies.

You are prepared? Good luck then, if you can keep them they have amazing personalities!

Easiest fish IMO they will take live foods happily and can learn to take frozen easily. Once you see them eat it, its a cake walk...

5g per puffer
poop loads of decorations (plants live or fake whatever tickles your bell and pieces of driftwood) to break their line of sight.

Fun easy to keep oddballs... lets not over think things here

my point exactly.

Well thanks for the replies! I am undecided still.....looks like I have plenty of time since my tank is taking aeons to cycle.

The number of hiding places depends on your puffers... Mine did fine with only a couple plastic plants and a cave. Oh, and i had 3 in a 10 gallon... They ere all fine.

ive read they need 5gal per puffer. if i was to get a a puffer tank id just get maybe a 7 gal with 1 puffer in because the full set up tank is dirt cheap brand new.

im unsure yet though its not set in stone :D

There personalities are amazing... Mine would eat out of my hand. 5 gallons per puffer is a guideline just like 1 inch per gallon. It dependson the puffer. Mine were fine with each other. And three pygmy cories.

yeah if i do get them il try with a corys first. if that doesnt work il try with shrimp.
