Hi guys. I have a tank that has mature bacteria in it. If I move that filter to my 10 gallon tank, will it be instantly cycled? Also, if so how long should I run by other filter in the mature tank? Thanks guys.

If you use WC water and move the filter quickly, and it is atleast 1/5th of your biological filter capacity on the 29 then it should work, best to add a few fish at first and test for ammonia in a few days though.

This will kick start your cycle not instantly finish it. Remember you will need to add bioload(ie fish) or do a fishless cycle to ensure you bacteria colony can cope with the addition of fish.

Need a little more info, such as the make & model of the 2 filters, and the bioload on the 2 tanks. Let's say, for example, your 29 has 3 identical small filters, and 15 1" fish. You could take 1 filter & 5 fish, and set up the 10 with 5 gallons of water from the 29 & 5 gallons of fresh dechlored water. I do it all the time.

Before I answer any questions, I have another one. If I take my sponge filter from the mature tank, and I squeeze it into the other tank's filter, will this kickstart my cycle? If it does, then I will even have to add ammonia?
