Hi there, In alphies old tank it came with a small background and i used that for his 3g as without it he seemed insecure as if he didnt feel safe, hiding around and not being active but with a background hes ok. So then when he was upgraded to a 5g the background didnt fit and looked odd so i just stuck a peice of a paper up and wrote alphies tank on it, but i took it off today because im going to mkae a better one, or my sisters will draw or paint me a really nice one to fit. But is there a reason why he may be insecure? Should i just get a better background to make him feel better? Also do you think it matetrs wether its colourful or not?

Your right, fish dont like all opened sides of the tank.

1 part atleast should be covered, and obviously the best choice would be the back.

Try a dark coloured background, for really stressed out fish, like when spikey was in QT, i covered all 3 sides and left the front for viewing. I used a newspaper, but you could make a nice colourful one :)

A magazine page will just cover it i think as the back is sort of A4 size!
:fun: betta_246 do you use backgrounds on any of your tanks? If so what backgrounds?

I use the ones from P@H, like they have a planted image on one side and plain blue on the other, cost about £2.60 for my 2 foot tanks each, but then you have lots of pieces left, that you cant do anything with :S

You could find a picture of a beautiful planted tank online ( get one of Takashi Amano's many amazing tanks ) and print it out, then stick it to the back.

I was going to do that but it takes up too much ink and we dont have much left.
but good idea :good:

I can tell hes insecure as hes lurking around at the bottom and before he continuously stayed in one corner head butting the sand. But now i've put a blue folder there, temporarily.

I did that on one of my betta tanks :) found a nice image of some anubias on bogwood, printed it out and placed it into a clear document pocket to keep it dry and sellotaped the other end, I was very pleased with it :D
