Inquisitive Question

For me keeping the fish? They are beautiful, and I figure that maybe I could try to do a tank not designated for breeding purposes. It would look great. Let me tell you what I have used to lower pH:

R/O (may have been a poor quality one?)
Indian Almond Leaves
Peat (still have some around here)
Neutral pH (powder dechlor/pH buffer)
pH Decrease (by wardley AND petsmart brand)
pH tabs (by jungle)
Bog Wood

In all honesty, unless you can lower it slowly (for the current fish) and then keep it stable, I wouldnt try to, although yours is high, provided you acclimatise properly, the fish should be fine, you dont want to try to breed them, if you mess about with the ph and it fluctuates constantly, it will do more harm than keeping the fish in the higher ph.

Have you tried Almmond or Oak leaves to lower your pH? I know a few of my friends use those methods to lower their pH.

there are a few, ways to adjust PH. but, few, if any give you stable conditions. over long periods, anyway.

i thought filtering through peat was one of the best? and it only takes fish 15min to adjust to pH fluctuation, it's hardness u need to be careful of

I meant, whats the point in lowering the PH, It will be fine anyway.

Why didn't I have any luck with peat? I don't know. Most people have luck with it. Unless someone has hard core reasoning for me to not get one, next time I see one for cheap, I will buy it,

Anyone have any insight on this idea of mine? There is a possibility of me getting a 40-45g tank in place of a current 20g that I have. If so, I may get a few more discus, depending on price.

I was thinking like Pigeon Blood , wild strains, Sunsets, ect. I am not too particular. If I see one I like, I'll get it. It turns out my final tank is a 40 high.
