So I was a my local pet store today getting some stuff for my tank and I stumbled apon an injured/beat up Green Terror in a tank of Jack Dempseys. I couldnt help myself, I had to buy him and get him out of that place. I have never really delt with a fish this beat up so I was wondering if anyone had some advice (he is 5 inches, missing some scales, and his fines look like spaghetti). Also will his color/patterns look the same once he has healed?

Thanks

Hi welcome to the forum! If you treat him with Melafix he should heal up pretty fast, are you prepared for how big he/she will get and what kind of tank mates they need? They should get an other 3-5 inches in them depending on gender and how theyve been raised etc.

I dont think his pattern will alter that much, a few months ago my nic was really badly beaten up by my old HRP male and her fins were just strands and thats her now in my avatar :)

Good quality water will help heal him/her up quickly, as said you can add some melafix if you want, but extra water changes do just as good a job.

As also mentioned by Wills, are you prepared tank wise for the size this fish can grow to and how aggressive they can potentially become. Minimum tank size should be 4ft and tank mates robust and fast. In a large tank, there is more scope for tankmates, but green terrors can change personality literally overnight, from placid to highly aggressive, so keep an eye on it.

Hi, I would suggest doing 10% daily water changes for one week with the addition of melafix,
Also try feeding a garlic enriched food, something like a cichlid pellet soaked in a TMC's brineshrimp and garlic frozen cube

Thanks guys. He/she seems to be doing much better and has adjusted well to his/her new 55 gallon home.

what other tank mates do you have in with him? it could get very crowded very quickly with fish that size!

There is a firemouth, 2 convicts and a gold algea eater
