Information Needed.

i have been keeping fish since last November and now im thinking, what is my tank about? i have a muddle of fish that are not native to one another and that must affect them? i mean wouldn't it be better to house fish that are from the same parts of the world, maybe the same river system?

i have decided to stick with my corys as they are great little guys, so i need some help finding out what else lives with them in the wild. i know the Raphael catfish is from south America, same as my corys but cant find out where either actually originate from ie: river system.

if you happen to know could you please let me know, also if you know of any other species that come from the same parts that would also be very grateful information.

Your fish won't mind living with fish from the other side of the planet, as long as they aren't being bugged by them. But it is nice to make a little "biotope" aquarium with the right fish and decorations. Just make sure you've got a safe place to move out the fish you already have in there. There are very many South and Central American fish to choose from. Here's a whole list of them

Erm, what's your tank size? What fish are already in there? What types of fish are you interested in? Little schooling ones? Big, lonely, centerpiece ones? There are so many Amazon fish I don't know where to start

the tank size is 48 x 16 x 16 and current stocking is..

3 x adult peppered corys
4 x adult bronze corys and 15 fry/juvi's
1 x rapheal cat
1 x bristlenose pleco
2 x clown plecos.

i love cats and plecos, as you can see above but i need some mid - high dwellers from the same area. ive tried small schooling fish and didnt have much luck, the last one i had was 12 danios and they had to be returned. i got them home and one has fungus / rot around the mouth! so im going to stay away from smaller fish of tha type for now.

i dont think i can have many bigger fish, frank, the Raphael / talking cat, will be 9 inches when fully grow so he limits what i can have if i keep him in there. i did think about buying another Raphael cat and just having corys with an amazon type tank, but i think this maybe a little bit wasted as the raphaels are VERY nocturnal.

Hatchetfish are schooling top dwellers from the Amazon, that might be an option for you. They do jump though so make sure you have a good lid. There's also tons of different tetras from the South American region you could look into. Then there's several different kinds of ram fish from there. You've gotta do your own research on all of these though, because the only of these fish I have experience with are green neon tetras.

looking through the list i really like Red breasted acara's, so stocking maybe...
3 x peppered corys
4 x bronze corys and keep 6 juvis
^ so 13 corys.
2 x clown plecos
1 x bristlenose
4 x Red breasted acara's * extra filter probably needed - im running a fluval 304 external + fluval plus 2 internal. i might buy a fluval 305 to run along side the 304.

not sure about the talking cat
