im gonna be setting up a 5 gal pic FOWLR + macro algea soon just for my yellow clown goby and a few small inverts. so in my main tank im looking for a small fish(2.5 inches or less) that will be fine with with a small feeding every other day.

based on livequaria.com this what i am looking at atm:
1) http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=194
2) http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=175
3) http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1483
4) http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1144
5) http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=181
6) http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1145
7) http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=2112

so if you guys can give me info on these guys especialy care info that would be great. i also need to know if these choices are coral and invert safe and can get along with a neon pseudochromis and a true percula clown. your help will be greatly appreciated.

never mind about the above. i want to know about this guy:

GobyFlamingPrawn.jpg

a flaming prawn goby. any info on these guys would be great.

ok....ill have to think about what im going to do then. well can you guys please give me info on the flamming prawn goby. they look really cool and i want to know more on them.

That another name for Griesinger's goby....VERY EXPENSIVE fish. You'll have just as much fun and save LOT's of dinero with a Yashia Haze and pistol combo. SH

The only fish that I can see going in a pico are evotia gobies, the small ones that top out at under an inch.

i do realize that that goby is very expensive but if there is one fish i would be willing to pay an arm and a leg for it would be that. so i would really like info on them. ive been google searching but cant find too much helpfull info on em.

as far as a fish in a pico Donya has a 5 gal pico with a yellow clown goby and he/she pretty much gave me the idea to create something similar. i was planning on 5 gal with 7 lbs of LR and lots of macro. theoreticly with that much LR to take care of the waste from a 1.5 inch fish and macro to consume all of the nitrate it shouldnt be that hard to maintain good water quality. there wont be any corals i wont have to worry about the water being absolutely perfect especialy since clown gobies are fairly hardy and easy to care for fish(apart from feeding).

EDIT: basicly i need to know how big does this guys get, how shy is it, compatible with current tankmates(see my profile), hard or easy to feed, and any special requirements.

i want to all that for the following fish:
1) flaming prawn goby(Discordipinna griessingeri)
2) yahsia white ray shrimp goby(Stonogobiops yashia)
3) Tangaroa Goby(Ctenogobiops tangaroai)
4) Hi Fin Red Banded Goby(Stonogobiops nematodes)

5 gallon is a nano, Pico is 3 or smaller, however this guy would not be that good looking in a 5 gallon IMHO, hed lose some color and some definition. All four of those fish are on the shy side, like to hang back within the rock or burrows in the rock with symbiotic pistol shrimp, grow to about 2 inches, you are looking at 140 USD, 70USD, 20usd, and 20usd respectively, probably find all of them on live aquaria. Easy to feed but you may have to spot feed fortunately they will eat just about anything, I used to have a hifinned red banded goby who would sit at the glass and eat pods all day, a fat little fellow he was. Of the tank mates the arrow crab worries me most, these are not strong fish and can be easily overpowerec by an oportunistic invert.

just because the live rock will take care of the waste does not be the fish will be happy just something to think about!

What is it with point of having a Pico Tank, they seem to be more popular in the US rather than the UK

I thought you boys liked everthing BIGGER :good: over the pond

The pico is a challenging tank and is not really intended to contain fish. The pico basis was to create a miniscule reef, picture perfect and as a challenge to maintain near perfect water conditions. IMO, anything 5 and under is a pico despite 'definitions'.

Although we think of fish as the source of waste, we forget that we must add food to feed the fish. Fish are NOT perfect scavengers and once you add fish, you add food and then you have nitrates in a pico. A pico crash is worse than a nano crash IMO. You don't want to fight nitrates in a pico.

You can plunk any animal you want into a tank the size of a thimble of water. It doesn't mean that it is conscientious marine aquarism ( whether a neighbor does it or someone here on this forum). IMO, no fish should be in a tank under 10 gallons and I would not put any fish in a pico. You have free hand with inverts and a shrimp has minimal bioload. Get a colorful cleaner shrimp...or blood shrimp. Spare the fish the torture. JMO. SH

Well said SH

I have noticed that there is a tendency for peeps to try to wedge fish into ever smaller tanks/containers (I think the smallest I have seem was a pair of clowns in a gallon jug ???? , poor things didnt stand a chance)

Simply dont understand the need tbh
