Anyone know if adding Indian Almond Leaf to a betta tank will alter the PH? The gal at the LFS said that it would lower it and she thinks that is the reason that all my bettas (including the two girls) are blowing bubbles now that I added the leaves. (She said in nature, when the leaves drop, it's the same time as when mating season for Bettas begin, hence them prepping for spawning.)

I have a couple of Indian Almond Leaves in my betta's 10 gallon. The pH hasn't altered, but I live in a hard water area and I think pH is less likely to fluctuate in hard water. But mysteriously, the water hasn't turned any darker either. And my betta couldn't care less he just ignores them, and no hint of a bubble nest. I wonder if I was sold some fakes  Got them off Ebay, might try a different seller next time, I actually wanted the water to turn a murky colour.

My water is hard too. With the IAL, the water has a hint of "warmth" to it rather than murk, but then again, I do not use an entire leaf. For my 5-gallon, I split a leaf into a 1" square.
