To cut a short story long..... some 4 weeks ago, I had 2 batches of Astatotilapia fry in 2 seperate tanks.... After removing the adults....I placed the 2 batches (of fry) together in a big tank & decided to prepare the one tank (empty) for my Killifish project.....
I completely stripped the tank... put the gravel into a bucket and rinsed the gravel vigourously until the water I poured out was crystal clear...... The tank was scrubbed... gravel put back in the tank and washed again.... several times. I set the tank up again... waiting for my Killis to arrive.
I did a water change in the combined fry tank and lost all of them. (must've been around 200 fry).
Walking past the (assumed) empty (scrubbed) tank today... I saw movement in there..... CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!!! one lone Astato fry!!!
I have not put any food into this "empty" tank for (must be a month already) but he is healthy and already recognisable as Astato ....... This is incredible!!!
If ever I had a fish in my 40years of breeding 'em, which I considered to be special, this one is it..... I'm gonna nurse him to maturity and give him/her a name..... Any suggestions.??
