So my mother thought it'd be a great idea to buy a common pleco for my 15 gallon tank under the influence of "its cute" and its 2.5 inches atm.

i've tried all night to convince her it'll grow too big and her excuse is always "we had plecs in a tank that big before and they only ever grew small" and "watch it for a few months and if it grows too fast we'll rehome it"

...now i live in York and i have zero idea how to rehome a pleco, the LFS I got it from would have no interest in taking back a godzilla pleco. not to mention it'd be a pain in the #16##### to transport it (the shops in Brough... the closest LFS which isn't pets at home.)

what do? :(

i.e. here, aquarist classified, preloved, gumtree, and then if all else fails, your local freecycle.

update: parents arent as sadistic as once thought. if (more like when) he grows over 6inches, he's going to be rehomed :)

Random giant pleco story- when I was sixteen my first job was at Petsmart in the fish section. For some reason they sent a MONSTER pleco with one of our standard shipments. This was when we had larger tanks than Petsmart does now, and this thing barely fit and had no room to turn. Someone actually bought it after only a few days, but they had to go buy a big cooler to transport it home in. Getting that thing out of the tank was an adventure, since there was no way to net it- I almost get smacked in the eye by its tail.

And our manager STILL insisted that common plecos were fine for twenty gallon tanks.

/end random giant pleco story

I've had a similair thing happen to me although the tank is 20gallon, i personally will keep the plec
until he is abit bigger and try re-home him somewhere suitable (Unless ofc i get another tank, that's more likely too happen lol).
It might be hard to re-home but IMO it's better then me returning it to the LFS small for someone else to buy it with a 20gallon and not re-home it.
