A saw this thing in my LFS that was basically a dial that sticks on the inside of the tank and displays ammonia.

What do you think? Accurate enough?

Not sure how accurate they are, but I'm told they only last a very limited amount of time. Hardly worth the bother. I've also heard they take several hours to react to any ammonia changes, by which time the damage to your fish is already done. It's better than nothing I suppose, but no substitute for a good old fashioned test kit.

There not to replace a test kit they are used to detect spikes in ammoina so you get a chance to get the buckets out :p They are not accurate but dont forget they dont have to be for their purpose

Excellent explanation of the context of this product

Would a permanent probe me more cost effective in the long run ? These things are at least a tenner each and you have to replace them quite regularly don't you ?
