i hope someone can understand the following which is technical but i do need the help of someone who has done this - lots of members must have.

i.m changing from a fluval 305 to a eheim pro filter. i'm concerned as i cannot cycle the new filter but need to swap media.

other than the what i call 'ceramic tubes' used by both filters, there is no other media i can transfer from the fluval to eheim.

i'm confused because i do not know which media is the bilogical media.

i,ve taken out the polishing pads from fluval, left in the ceramics, and replaced the pads with the eheim substrat pro to get that media cycled.

i will then transfer all the ceramics and substrat pro from the fluval to the eheim and change over filters

the only media that will be new in the eheim will be the filter pads.

any better or other ways of changing filters please - any help?

Just run both of them for about 2-3 weeks and the filters will clone.

Hi, I am no expert so I won't be offended if someone contradicts what I say :shifty: I have my canopy filter set up this way and have great stats and clear water. :good: The way I see it is, the first filter media (usually white and fine woollen) is more mechanical as it traps waste, the next (usually green and fine foam) is again waste trap. The final media (usually blue and coarse foam) is very much bioloical. Then you can have 'ceramic tubes' (noodles) which are excellent biological (bacteria). Your type of filter may not have all these media types but you get the general idea. As you are using your old noodles this will be good as they house most of the bacteria. I will watch this thread with interest as I have a feeling it will be interesting!
