Well i don't know if you guys have noticed these tank designs but i certainly have and i have always wondered if they were cruel or not;

http://www.livingpictures.co.uk/tropical_f...res_gallery.htm

Its just that the fish have nowhere to hide in the tanks and its not like you could give them anywhere to hide in a tank that narrow, the fish would barely have the space to turn around; what do you guys think?

The same goes for colum and coffee table aquariums- my concern with coffee table aquariums is that a table is where you put things on and surely the fish would be getting realy stressed out all the time having stuff banged/dumped on top of their home all day long?
How the heck are you supposed to clean those coloum aquariums?? i've seen those 6ft ones on sale on ebay...

and coffee table aquarium on ebay(although this is just one example- they do vary alot);

Those tanks are obviously made for people who can't fully admire a fishes' beauty by itself. They have to buy a cheesy, cruel tank just so their house looks good because the poor fish can't do that for them :no:

They have those living pictures tanks at one of my lfs, thier reccommended stocking is plants :lol: certainly not a "fish tank"

Sounds like a good LFS :p
Yep, not bad, I have four and this is one of the two I would (and do) buy fish from.

havent looked at these ones but something similar may very well end up on the wall in our cloak room. a small school of small tetras as its only inhabitants. :)

They are all awful, you would have to get on your hands and knees with the coffee table one.

my LFS has a 2.5 foot long siphoning gravel vac; i've seen the kind run by air pumps with tubes as long as 3 feet. that's all i can think that would be good for cleaning a 6ft column. my deal would be trying to feed it (i'd need a step ladder)

--EDIT--
i personally would really like a coffee table aquarium to keep an african butterfly and some bottom dwellers. i think you could do a really neat African-esque setup in one of those.

those living pictures are all at least 6 inches deep

it's not that bad. maintenance would be hard but pther than that, it's just a thin tank but nothing outrageous.

I prefer a real deep tank but 6 inch deep is fine for small fish like guppies IMO

well, at least those cofee table ones are normal size, and not as bad as that sink tank one abc' s extreme makeover home edition! That one was terrible!

I do think that some really small fish, like guppies would be okay in one of the picture things. They are very small, so they will have room to turn around. And plants would look nice in there with guppies, and maybe a few small tetras, but those tanks are usually 8 gallons, so it isnt practical.
