Im Wanting A Betta But...

Hi I'm just cycling my fish tank 3ft juwel rio 180 tank. I love the blues and reds of bettas, but where do I start?

What are they good with what arent they? One of my local shops has about 15 all mainly blue and reds. But I like to have quite afew fish in my tank, but not sure what to do. Any advice thanks.

i wouldn't put a male in a tank that size as it would limit your choices greatly, you could however have a nice group of females

ok thanks, so a group of females, how many? As with some like sharks for eg they recommend in groups of 6.

Would they be ok with all other fish then? and the bright red ones wouldnt be females would they?

Females come in every colour males do, although my local store tends to just get red/blues. with groups of females generally we recommend a minimum of 5 to spread aggression, i have 14 in my group i have reds, blues, marbles (white/blue) whites, greens, blue&yellow all sorts

omg yours sounds awesome! do you have any good pics of that? Yeah I've not seen any of those other colour forsale although I hope I do, but yeah just red and blue ones I see forsale. So if I get 5 females, what couldn't I put with them so they don't all fight? Thanks for the help

I have got a Juwel Vision 260. Against all recommendations this contains a moonlight gourami, a female angel fish, a couple of mollies, some hi-fin platys, longfin bn plecos, 7 female bettas and 1 male betta. I have one very aggressive female betta that is going to a new home today because she wont leave the others alone, but the rest of the fish all get along just fine. My male betta swims happily around in amongst the lot of them! I think that a lot of the time it is down to each individual fishes personality. With female betta I was advised to keep them in a minimum group of 5 to avoid aggression.

Just do not put a male in with them.

My girls are all different colours too. You can get some amazing ones on the internet, but the price and postal charges put the cost up rather high. My lfs sells females for £2.99 Six of mine were from there and totally different colours. All very beautiful! E-bay have some lovely specimens too

My white female and the white/blue marble can be seen HERE as said theres some great ones on ebay, myself and fuzzynicki have used the same seller she is getting another load in this weekend, they will be more expensive than from you store but they are worth it

Worth every penny though eh My longfin bn plecos are out all the time,- I love them! My clown pleco I never, ever see

That sounds pretty good, I'm not keen on platys, I've just sold afew of mine. Yeah I'm surpised with the gourami and angel fish! I thought these would all fight, suppose end of the day there like people some get along some don't. I would love a gourami and angel fish if I can do this right. Thanks
