I'm Such And Idiot. ... Gill Fluke.

On the med instructions does it say you have to redose in so many weeks.

On the med instructions does it say you have to redose in so many weeks.

It says to treat 2 times with 48 hours in between after doing a 25% water change. But it does not say for how long. all it says is "2 doses are required for full course of treatment. " 2 doses seems too easy.

Then it says for anchor worm and fish lice repeat treatment up to 3 times. Then use once a week with 25% water changes.

So I am thinking I'm going to treat them one more time. I have already done 2 treatments. Tomorrow will be the 3rd. Today is the 5th day of treatment. I feel like 2 treatments is not enough. I could still have some eggs in the tank they have not hatched yet. But none of them are scratching and the keyholes fins are all growing back fast. They were ragged at the pet store. To 2 keyholes are the only ones I worry about. All other fish in the tank are doing perfect no one has been flashing or acting funny.

The male Keyhole still has inflamed gills but that's it. The female has a cloudy patch on her side. At first when I brought them home I thought it was fungus, but It does not look like fungus. I am thinking it's the Flukes on her skin. that can make them have cloudy grey patches. These 2 conditions are the only things wrong with the fish and they don't seems to be bothered by them. They act normal, eat normal, breath normal, they are doing great besides those 2 things.

I am thinking it will clear up once all the parasites are gone, and the body can start repairing it's self. Just to be sure after I am done treating the parasites I am going to go ahead and do one treatment with Fungus clear. Fungus clear treats fungus and bacteria I have had good luck with it in the past. You know just to make sure no secondary infection start.

So far they are happy and doing well. When I go near the tank to watch them they come swimming right up to my face. I love it.

How long would you treat for Flukes ??? Do you think 2 treatments is enough? Because I know with Ick some meds say it works in 4-7 days but you should treat for 10-14 days to be on the safe side. Parasites are tricky.

I would add the two treatments as that should kill the adult parasites.
Then do a water change and run some black carbon.
Then I would add a bacterial med.
Then after the bacterial med has finished it course do another water change and run some black carbon.
Then redose the fluke med again to kill the young parasites as they hatch.
Forget about the fungus clear and add a bactetrial med parasites can cause the skin to look cloudy.

Update
So I ended up treating the tank for Gill Fluke for 10 days. Everyone is fine no one died or ever got sick. I am just keeping the tank nice and clean checking my water everyday and treating for secondary infections for a few days.

So I was able to save the Keyholes from the dirty store. All fish are doing great and they are all getting along. WOO HOO :kana: :kana: :kana: :kana: :kana:

Glad there on the mend well done.
