anyway... if you can you should post them on here like everyone else, thell be gone in two days. and IMO the governments dont care about illegal pets as long as they are looked after, ive brought my illegal bird to vets and bird stores and lfs once, noon cares, especially if they saay kiss kiss lol

Do you have any larger fish that would accept them as food? I know many people don't believe in feedin smaller fish to larger fish, but it would help you out, and the larger fish would be happy.

As suggested before, maybe you can find a local aquarium club, and ask them in anyone in the group is in need for feeders. Many people that go to my local aquarium club use small guppies as feeders.

Well thanks for the replies everyone.

I braved the storms today and took them to my local Swallow Aquatics where they sell them for 99p each (in a reject tank specialy for this purpose).

I've kept 1 or 2 for myself as a nice splash of colour, the males were exceptionally pretty.

This predicament came about as people in the area know I keep fish so often give me any they can't look after. 17 at once was a bit extreme.

All taken care of now, but all tanks are going through mini-cycles still. Hoping for the post to arrive tommorow with my new Seachem Prime & Stability to give the bacteria and fish a bit of support.

I believe Swallows has a special liscence where they can sell all fish (as they also sell marine and brackish).

Hybrids themselves aren't illegal, but selling them without a liscence is.

endlers arent hybrids, some are but the real endler is a seperate species.

I think that he has already gotten rid of them. And theses were hybrids. They were guppy/endler mix.

Why are guppy/endler crosses illegal? They are very closely related species so unlikely to produce deformed offspring. Many endlers sold in lfs have some guppy genes anyway. And what about tigers, a deliberately bred guppy endler cross which now breeds true? I have some tigers myself, bought from someone who has bred them successfully for 4 generations

Something along the lines of stock lists. If you sell a fish you don't have on the stocklist at full retail value it incurs a penalty. If you sell it for a pittence, it doesn't.

Well today a person dumped a bag of endler/guppy hybrids on me. Literally gave them to me and walked off without a word. Problem is, the place I work, since we can't legally sell them, they would have to be destroyed.

After counting, there are 17. I've managed to spread them between my 3 tanks, putting massive strains on the filters and 2 emergency tanks which will be needing 95% water changes daily.

Put this on top of my already mini-cycle problems of changing gravel and I'm changing about 90-100L of water per day.

I couldn't just let these poor things be destroyed or flushed, it's not their fault they exist.

Grahh..I'm going to be so crippled.

That's a tough predicament, bud. I'm with you on this, stay strong.

I agree that flushing them down the toilet isn't the most humane thing you can do. How you about this ...and please think about it before dismissing it.... how about deep frying them and eating them? I know it sounds unorthodox, but it's actually probably the most natural thing you can do. You will just be putting them back into the food chain.

You can use a Chinese recipe they use for insects, here's one i found, slightly adjusted it for your situation

Guppy Fritters

3/4 cup sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c milk
1 egg, slightly beaten
3 TBLS of guppies
1 pt. heavy cream beaten stiff

Sift flour, baking powder and salt together into a bowl. Slowly add milk and beat until smooth. Add egg and beat well.
Pluck off guppies' tail and fins, heads optional. Dip them in egg batter and deep fry. Salt and serve.


Considering how attached you've become to the guppies, this would be so climatic, the two of you becoming one. Use chopsticks for best experience. And send a picture if you can.

Ok i'm sorry if i sound rude but i don't find that appropriate to be posted on a fish forum where members intrests are keeping fish healthy and alive. Besides you should never eat tropicsal tank bred fish due to the fact that they could have come into contact with certain medications that would have ill affects on humans.
Please think before you post.
