So i went to the pet store today to get crickets and of course i looked at the stock and found the females guppy tank. The tank had about all 12 females that had some deformaties like curved spines and the works. Another thing i saw were some male fancys getting stuck in the filtration flow because of ther long fins

.  I mean really, why do we have to mutalate guppies so they can look cool whats bad About natural guppies? anybody else seen this in their pet stores? sorry about the long rant it just bothers me.

Yeah I have seen it plenty of times.

. It is a terrible thing and especially when the other fish are just picking at it.... sad sight. The pet stores don't even bother to take them out.... go of topic a little.... But when I use to sell guppies, people always said that they were beautiful and when they bought some from pet stores they died in a few days. Made me feel happy to be able to make someone else happy.

And if I could I would prefer natural guppy, just that I do not know many places that sell them.

i know right i especially tthink endlers look great much better than the "fancy" guppies i just wonder if there was a way to stop it.

Well I think the only think possible would probably be complaining. And I do love endlers way more than guppy at pet stores, but I don't know were I could get them besides aquabid. And what would you think about guppy competitions, I look at those and think of nothing but inbreeding and culling. =(

how could they reward people to do such a thing, makes me mad

Complaining might stop it, but I doubt it... One way to stop it is to stop buying guppies from there.  If you buy guppies from them then they will restock guppies.  You stop buying from there, and encourage people you know to do the same.  Only buy from places where the guppies are healthy.  I don't shop at one local store anymore, for anything, because they had a sick goldfish with a sick gourami.

right but theres really no places without the fancy guppy strain you gotta get guppies somewhere, feeder guppies i now pronaly have clean genes.

True.  Feeder guppies might, but who knows really.  You'd just have to order them online probably.

Its a common consequence of breeding for profit vs breeding responsibly. It also effects a lot more then just guppies. Too many farms and wholesalers out there sell weak or hybridize species and in the end it only hurts the hobby as a whole to have these populations flood the market. Best advice IMO is the buy from private/hobbyist breeders, their fish will always be healthier and more genetically sound then a lot of the fish from the shops.

yea that why im not buying guppies anymore at lest fancy varities its just unfair.

Inbreeding  guppies as always been the way forward and like it or not it's here to stay.
you can do as many others have Chosen to do and stop keeping guppies.
or do as I have done and learn  how to keep and inbreed guppies with out any Genetic problems
you and many others need to understand when you see poor quality guppies in your lfs
it is not always because of inbreeding  inbreeding/Genetics is not a problem when you know what you are doing
never give up on breeding  guppies you need to start of with good quality fish and there are plenty of shops that still sale good
quality guppies from there onwards they can be inbreed  for many years with out adding new blood,
