I have a salt-&-pepper platy who is pregnant, but I'm not sure how close she is. Her gravid spot has the little eye-dots, her stomach has "squared off," and the anal area is opened up, and she is wide, but she's not ball-shaped from the front or back view, really. I had her in an isolation tank overnight, but when nothing was born I got nervous that the cramped space was stressing her out so I put her back in the main tank. I'll upload some pictures as soon as I can get some good ones, but what do you all think?

this is the best front/back view I could get of her

definitely pregnant but i wouldnt quite say squared off....
i'd say you still have like a week.
place some plants at the top of the tank so that they are floating.
the fry like that

I would make a first guess that she still has a couple of weeks to go. I have a link to a thread I wrote a while back that is called My Molly's Progress. The whole point to the thread was to give people something to compare to their own fish so that they could judge progress. You are in the perfect position to judge your fish since you can see her up front and watch her movements.

Hi everyone, im new to this forum and new to Platys. I have a female who I am convinced is pregnant, she has a big round belly. i have tried to upload a picture but it wont automatically resize it for me, i tried to use it as my profile picture aswell but it wont let me do that either. Anyone know how to upload so i can get advice from you regarding my platys pregnancy.
Thanks, Joanne

I managed to resize the picture myself and use it as my profile picture, its a bit blurry but clear enough to determine wether she is pregnant or not.

Welcome to the forum Joanne.

I suspect your platy is carrying fry but without a better picture it is hard to say how long she has to go.

I reality, there is no picture storage here on TFF. The best thing that I have found is to go to a place like photobucket and register there. It doesn't cost anything to do that. Once you are registered you can upload your pictures there and then just link to them from here. They have several options for linking and you just copy the link that has the IMG code associated with it and paste it in as if it was text in your post here. The end result is a picture that looks like it is here. An example is this picture of a youthful mature male red tailed goodeid.

sorry there not very good but i cant get any decent pics

The first picture looks like a female at last 2 weeks before her next fry drop. The other two do nothing to change that impression.
Try something that may work for you as it does for me. Back away from the tank a bit and get a good focus on your female while not shooting straight into the glass. Once you have done that, make a backup copy and open the picture with a decent photo editing program. I use MS Office Picture Manager, but there are lots of them out there that you can download. Next up you crop the picture that is probably showing all kinds of stuff you don't want in the picture. Once it is showing only what you want, you adjust the lighting and contrast to improve the picture to almost look like real life. Finally you change the "size" to be x number of pixels in each direction. I usually cut the file down to only 800 pixels in the largest dimension. The end result is an in focus picture, remember that is where we started, that only shows the subject and is plenty clear enough for internet usage. My files start out around 5 or 6 megabytes and end up at less than 1 megabyte before I load them to my photobucket location.
