Im Giving Up

Im confused, i know what a sponge filter is. I have one in a 30 g. I thought you meant decreasing my flow from my power filter with a sponge. In the albino's tank, there are 2 peices of slate, and some gravel. In the other ange tank, a pot, a big piece of bog wood, a plastic plant, and some slate( to hold the bog wood down). I have airstones in both tanks.

try leaving everything to the parents for once. it'd be smooth sailing after the cannibalism-of-eggs stage. hasn't failed me yet.

and regarding the tank, try removing everything except the sponge filter and slate. meaning take out the air stones, gravel or plants etc.

What would gravel have to do with the eggs? I have left it to the parents countless times. No sucsess yet.

Gravel has to do with bacteria. The sort of bacteria you don't want. Cleanliness being next to Godliness often applies to breeding problems. Substrate is one variable that should be eliminated.

Bacteria will often attack eggs before fungus, the fungus being secondary. Many folks think it is a fungus problem because you can't see the bacteria. Eliminating bacterial problems makes the fungus go away.

The bacteria may be directly attributed to the adults. More acidic water has some bacteriostatic properties to it, more alkaline water the opposite. Other breeders have gotten past this problem with a treatment of potassium permanganate, an oxidizing agent that can be a bit tricky to use, but has yielded excellent results.

Ditto. That is what I was getting at last night. Empty tank equals a clean tank. Clean tank equals clean water. Clean water is key for eggs.

Yeah, then angel fry wont be happening anytime soon. My mom refuses to let me have a graveless tank ( i prefer one with gravel too, but if its needed). She says she dosent want a bare bottom tank. Because them you can see the poop and everything, and that if i take the gravel out, shes taking the tank down. What is potassium permaganate?

"What is potassium permaganate? "

Something I wouldnt mess with unless my fish were very sick and I have tried everything else.

you could buy it at ace hardware along with the water softening supplies. It's risky and about 13 bucks for a small container. It comes in a small grey powder form and only a fraction of a teaspoon will turn ur whole tank pink. I just used it to kill the algae off my plants and kill the snails.

Rather than using chemicals to kill bacteria, just do a 50% water change and complete gravel clean each day during the breeding. This will dilute disease organisms and keep the water and gravel cleaner. Also clean the filter if it hasn't been done in the last month. Wash the filter materials out in a bucket of tank water and not under the tap. Clean gravel, clean filter and clean water will lower the chance of fungus attacking the eggs.
Having said all that I have raised angel and other cichlid fry in community tanks and most of the eggs are fine and don't go white. I would still be looking to see if you have a male and female or just 2 females that keep laying. If you do have a male and female then the male might be shooting blanks.

They are being sold this week. I am glad they are going to a good home. We will know if he is shooting blanks or not once she gets them. She is good at hatching angel eggs( she lives in the same city, but her water is at 7.0, which makes NO SENSE!)
