Im Already Bored , And Stripping The Tank Down

ive been on here about 2 months , and in that time ive had some excellent advice , but im already really bored with feeding the fish and doing a 50% water change every week, so the time has come for me to strip it down , sell it off, and buy a vivarium !

i have a feeling its gonna be a 100 times simpler and CHEAPER !

anyone ever got bored so quickly ?

yes...before buying a vivarium...consider what your wanting to keep...reptiles...amphibians, the most basic reptiles such as bearded dragons are going to need a large vivarium and get very large

if you wish to carry on with fish keeping you need to keep yourself ambitious...give yourself goals, and plan what you want to achieve

im a chippy im building my own *viv*

ill be keeping reptiles , ive already looked into it a bit, im making a 4 foot one and it will be perfect , no more water changes no more gravel vaccing ...

i dont want to have to keep interfering with my tank and thats all i seem to be doing , im just fed up with it

I thought you kept reptiles in a terrarium?

no, reptiles can be kept in a vivarium

but on the plus side reptiles are good but can be just as much work as fish, I would say my fish are easier than my beardie I used to keep.

Teraniums are normally used for reptiles that require water or misting they are the same as vivs but glass, wood is preferable for some because they hold the heat better.

os if thats the case i wont keep reptiles for long, at least though with them i dont have to mess about ever week with water changes , and keep an eye on the water conditions , fish keeping isnt for me , i want something i can set up , and leave to enjoy, i hear yah tho buddy , but id rather have reptiles than a tank to be honest

got to agree...i had a beardie and he got to big for me...i then bought a leopard gecko and 2 more to follow...and they consume a lot of my time

I looked into getting a beardie recently - I love em!! But I thought the cost to set up my fish tank was enough... when I looked at the cost of setting up a vivarium...ouch! My student wages cant stretch THAT far!!

Id still love one though..ahh well, one day!!

Im not saying its a bad choice, just saying its not a setup and leave job. They need live food + calcium dust and poop needs to be removed almost daily to prevent internal parasites, beardies also like to be bathed to help poop pass through, lol! Im sure you will enjoy it, it is really rewarding esp when they cuddle up to you and fall asleep.

because i err on the side of caution , and im not getting a beardy im going to get Chameleons

Im not wanting to put you off or anything but Chameleons are extremely sensitive to there environment and don't like being handled and need to be misted with water to keep them from dehydrating as they will poo in water if left in the viv. They are fascinating reptiles and I am secretly hoping to keep one in the future just don't tell the misses

I say go for it, it will be a challenge whilst rewarding

im meticulous and i know id fare better , the tank needs to be tidy all the time , 2 days after a water change and vac, its looking untidy again, i really cant be bothered with a tank anymore , theres too much to keep on top of , and not all Chameleons are a mega hassle , some are relatively easy to care for compared to others, i will go for it

but not until ive sold my tank and equipment ....
