Well after a few months tank is now up and running i will just go through my set up any suggestions are welcome.

tank = 216L, 120cmx45cmx45cm fluval duo deep 1200

filters = rena xp3 and fluval +4 internal

heater = visi-therm 300w ( my tronic had condensation when i tried it )

substrate = black sand

rocks = about 40kg of ocean rock

planning on having a mbuna tank still not sure what yet but there will be no fish going in for 7 weeks apart from the 2 goldfish in there all ready in there

now just a couple of questions in my rena filter i have one spare tray i was thinking of putting some ceramic media in and some crushed coral also what about flow in the tank.

will try and get pic on here , is there a way to attach a pic direct without a link.

That sounds like a good idea putting some crushed coral in the filter media basket that would be a good way of increasing ph what would you do wrap it in a pair of tights???

got to crush it first its still one big piece of coral , had not thought about it it but tights do sound like a good idea cheers

when you mentioned it sounded good my ph is 7.5/7.6 so was thinking how i could increase it sounds like a good method anyone know if this will actuall work??

you can put the crushed coral straight in the filter basket.that will be fine.try a black background on your tank.the black looks the best for malawi's in my opinion.your rock setup looks really good,as does the black subsrate.

im not sure about the blue either if i can figure an easy way to change it i will.

That looks lovely. a easy way I found to change the back of my tank when its against the wall is a 2man job. I just smear the vaseline on with a bank/credit card and then get someone to feed the background to me on the other side of the tank. I agree that black back and substrate with the white rocks looks lovely, this is what i will be doing when I have got my white rock together. cant wait to see your tank with the fish.

I think it looks great just like it is....I'd maybe put a couple plastic plants in there just to accent it some. I don't know about changing the background...its a good blue. I had painted black background for a long time and it got to be ugly....then again I had stopped keeping african cichlids. The only way I'd have a black background now is if I had a species tank of mbunas of some sort, like yellow labs or demasonis. :hey:

The black sand looks really good, though.
