How about that taking care of fishes will not only keep you out of trouble, but also teach you responsibility, financial management AND lower your stress level as it is very relaxing to watch them.

prehaps if you get a fish that they like, one that gets big, they will get a bigger tank for it when it gets bigger? I think my parents minght do that for my brothers goldfish. they really like it, and he needs a bigger tank, so im assuming in the summer they will have to get him a bigger tank so he wont die.
