Or even, which would you definately avoid! ( and give a reason why )

The reason I ask is I'm in the market for a few new submersible heaters as the Interpet 150W that is in my big tank has condensation inside it ( so on it's way out I guess ) I'm going to replace it with a 200W model; plus I will need a few others for fry tanks and other species tanks. Sub £20 via E**Y auction site would be best, and ideally stocked and shipped from UK to UK address.

I initially looked at Superfish branded models but also Hydor Theo.

You experience with good or bad heaters would be much appreciated, and useful info for others here :)

always used cheap ones from lfs, or ones that came included with new tanks and they are all still going. Recently got a hydor eth inline for £20 of ebay, now will slowly change all over to theese when they come up cheap:)

My two Juwel heaters underheat (compared to the adjustment scale), at max (in theory 32C) they can just about do 25C.

My two Rena Smartheaters overheated (compared to the adjustment scale), at min (20C) they try to maintain 23C. One of them blew 22/12.

I then bought two Visitherms, calibration is spot on, which arrived on 23/12 from good old Aquacadabra and yesteday evening I ordered a spare too...

Spend a few bucks more for an inline heater. I got one and will never go back. No heater in the tank is a wonderful thing.

I just use the 150W Fluval heater that came with my tank. Can't fault it :D

rena smart heaters are the best i have used. very accurate and keep the temp spot on in all my tanks. also they wont burn fish as they arent the old glass style heaters and they wont smash or crack for the same reason.

i would probably go down the in line heater route but they dont make any to fit an FX5

I have a Rena and another off brand but most of my heaters are the Visitherm product line. I have never had a problem with any of them over the last 7 or 8 years since I got back into the hobby. There was a recall on the Stealth model last year but they were replaced at no charge with brand new heaters by the manufacturer. They would even ship you the replacement to keep your tank warm before expecting to see the old heater.
