This, I don't get. Alage are plants, aren't they? I know plants consume O2 during the night but I can't imagine how that could make so much difference? I'd think most of the growth happens during the day when photosynthesis is most active?

No I don't think algae are plants. Not quite anyway. They share similar nutrition needs but need oxygen to flourish IIRC. More details:

Thanks for the link. But according to it, all algae photosynthesize, which means they consume CO2 and produces O2? No?

This sounds like a dumb question, but isn't algae a type of mold?

the word algae is used very loosely?? some algae is Cyanobacteria, other is diatoms, some are even plant...

Ah that could be it then. Different types and different needs? Some have spores like a fungus as well I think. ANyway, fact remains that I stopped the bubble maker and lost most of my algae of all types. Whatever the science it gave the desired results.
