I have searched high and low for this kind of fish, i saw it in a fish centre a while ago on sale but i never got a chance to ask the name of this.

Im trying to arrange what fish i would "like" to try and what would be able to be joined with them

the fish i had in mind is about 2 inches in size (some were smaller) which was a bright blue colour at the front and merges into a bright red at the back and tail.
I had to take a double look at them as i thought they were plastic but they were not.
I remember i saw them in with some bright yellow angel type fish but i would love to know the name so i can try and check them out. i tried to discribe it to my local pet shop and they havent got a clue.

Dwarf neon rainbowfish perhaps, google this fish and see if it is the one that you had in mind.

nup, not any of them.
i saw a gourami quite similar to the look of the fish i saw but it has a very bright royal blue for the top and a bright vibrant red for the bottom and tail

Link to similar

Was it a gourami shape? Was it long in body?

What were the fins like short or long?

My guess would have been that picture that you have above. However you say that is not it.

Could also be a red fire gourami.

edit**** sorry you already posted and said that it's like this, my mistake, I'll keep looking.

it was quite a small fish say 2 inches max length and quite thin width, very short fins but quite a big tail
i just remember the colours being so striking, it looked very plasticy but the shop owner showed that it wasnt but i never got a chance to ask what it was

i have "attempted" to draw a pic - im no good drawing on the laptop

the colours were exactly like this.

im going to go traveling soon and will hopefully come across the shop again so will let you know what it was if no one is able to work it out :)

the fish Araura suggested is very similar to the fish that i saw only the blue was more florescent and it wasnt that big

Ugh, hmm, no idea what it could be. A "plasticy" fish, that is half red and half blue...
