Can anyone give me the correct scientific and common names for these two.

I looked through a huge list of plec thumbnails , but some look very similar so I'm not sure

The second one is a Common Plec I think. Wat size tank have you got because they grow really big. Mine was about 10" (sold him yesterday)

Not sure about the other one sorry.

Loaf
:D

The first one is Tilapia buttikofferi, a rather bad tempered nasty Cichlid from West Africa that will grow to about 15 inches. When adult it is unlikely to share a tank with anything and will probably kill any tankmates.

I was afriad of that. Got the wrong info from the lfs - again! Already it doesn't stand back for 4 - 5 inch guys and it is not quite 2 inches. Will have to find it a new home asap. :grr:

Never take a lfs's word for a fish that you don't know anything about even if they have sold you good fish in the past, you cannot expect them to tell you all there is to know about a particular fish. That is why doing your own research is so important as if you research all the key areas in getting a new fish there are to know, you can't go wrong.
I would take him back to the lfs you got him from, its unlikely anyone else will have the right habitat and accomodation for him.

Still tiny, about 2 inches head to tail.
