Right this is not my fish but it looks the exact same. This pic is a acarichthhys i think. I searched it because i just read someone mentioning them and to my surprise it looks like one of mine. I bought mine under a geo which i thought it was. Ive been back in the shop and they are not sure which geo it was but gave me a couple of names and i googled them to not really finding much similar. My fish has the black down the eye and the black at the front of the top fin like the one in the pic. Is there geo that look similar? Just thought id ask,l cheers

Bolivian ram? - Though that could be a juvi of a few geophagus species.

definatley a bolivian ram. From the stripe through the eye and the black line at the start of the dorsal!

thats not a bolivian ram

i would expect a bolivian ram of that size to have a gold eye colour, a two-tone body colour starting to show, red edging to the dorsal and caudal fins, and some blue specks starting to show on the ventral, caudal and anal fins. it is also missing the black spot on the body, the colour on the ventral and anal fins is wrong and the base colour of the fish looks off

if u google acarichthys heckelii u can find the exact same image, so my guess is its a threadfin acara

Could you post another photo? Whatever it is looks stressed in that shot. It reminds me of a Bolivian ram but I dont think it is. How big is it? The line in the eye can come and go with the fish mood.

OMG you are right!!!! I found that same Photo on MFK. under the name acarichthys heckelii HUmmm Was this posted by a troll? weird.

if the OP's fish looks exactly the same, it is a threadfin acara. if it looks "exactly" the same but with some of the physical traits described in my post, it is a bolivian ram

easiest way to get ur own fish identified would be to take a couple of photos of it and post them here

looking at the picture again i dont think its a bolivian ram looking at the mouth here is a pic of one of my rams to compare to the picture posted

Yes i googled the image lol. I meant to say that i searched the name as i wanted to know what it looked like and then i find a pic that looks spitting to what ive got. My fish is about 2.5 inches. It looks very similar to a geo yes? Ill have to look thrugh a few more pics. Ill get a photo of mine aswell

I just had another google and found another pic. Mines defo one of these. Are the related to geo cause they look really similar. Looks like it will turn out nice anyway.

I dont think its a ram actually.... what did you buy it as? Gorgeous sajicaa in the bg btw :)

Whats the stocking in there looks like a nice tank :)

I bought it as a geo but looks like a threadfin as previous said. I have the fish you see, plus a orange chromide, tiger barbs, Bristle nose and a hoplo catfish. Cheers
